Wooden Floor Repairs and Restoration
As is often the case on older period style homes there is a disused concrete hearth spoiling the look of the wooden floor, this is where a fireplace may have been removed or covered over in lieu of a modern central heating system.
We often get asked to rectify this situation.
We do so by digging out the original concrete hearth and inserting a structural timber frame we then stitch in some reclaimed matching floorboards.
The term stitching refers to the way we do it by using staggered joints thus making the new insertion virtually invisible.
The photo below illustrates how this is done.
